Privacy Policy
RoutineNest is operated by Simon Reiter, an individual developer based in Australia ("we," "us," "our"). This Privacy Policy explains what information RoutineNest collects, how it is used and stored, and the choices available to you as a parent or guardian using the app.
RoutineNest is a family organisation tool for parents and guardians. It is not a children's app, is not directed to children, and is not listed in Apple's Kids Category or any equivalent Google Play children's program. Every feature in RoutineNest, including setup, configuration, account creation, and subscription management, is designed to be operated by a parent or guardian. Children may interact with the app's checklists and visual schedules under a parent's supervision, but do not create accounts, provide information directly to us, or manage any settings themselves.
If you have questions about this policy or want to exercise any of the rights described below, contact us at [email protected].
1. Summary (plain-language overview)
- RoutineNest has a free plan that works entirely on your device. In the free plan, nothing you enter is sent to us or to anyone else. It never leaves your phone.
- RoutineNest has an optional Premium plan, which adds cloud sync (so multiple parents/devices can see the same family data), additional children, and calendar features. Premium requires creating an account with an email address, and the data described below is then stored securely on our behalf by our cloud database provider, Supabase.
- We do not run advertising of any kind, in either plan.
- We do not use analytics, tracking, or behavioural profiling of any kind, in either plan.
- The only third parties involved in the app are Supabase (cloud database, Premium only, in Sydney, Australia), RevenueCat (subscription management), and Apple/Google (who process all payments directly, so we never see your card details). Emails you send us pass through our website and email providers, described in Section 4.6.
- If you ask to join the beta, we keep the email address you send us, and use it only for beta invitations and a launch notice. See Section 2.4.
- You, the parent, choose everything that goes into the app. We do not collect information directly from children.
2. Information we collect
RoutineNest is designed to collect the minimum information needed to run the family schedule and chore features a parent sets up. The table below describes every category of information the app handles.
2.1 Information collected in both the Free and Premium plans
| Information | Description | Who enters it |
|---|---|---|
| Child's first name | Used to label that child's tasks, chores, and stars within the app. RoutineNest does not ask for a surname, date of birth, photo, or any other identifying detail about a child. | Parent |
| Family display name | A free-text label a parent chooses for their family (e.g. "The Smiths," "Team Awesome"). This field is optional and unrestricted in format, so it can include a full name if a parent chooses to enter one, even though the app does not ask for or require this. | Parent |
| Colour preference and one emoji per child | A colour theme (often chosen by the child) and a single emoji selected by the parent from their device's native emoji keyboard, used to visually personalise each child's section of the app. | Parent (child-influenced) |
| Routine and chore completion activity | Records of which tasks and chores have been marked complete, and when. This is functional data needed to run the app's core features. | Parent/child (tapping within the app) |
On the Free plan, all of the information above is stored only on your device, using local on-device storage. It is never transmitted to us, to Supabase, or to any other party. If you delete the app, this information is deleted with it.
2.2 Additional information collected only on the Premium plan
| Information | Description |
|---|---|
| Parent's email address | Collected when a parent creates an account to enable cloud sync. Used solely for authentication and essential account communications. We do not use your email for marketing. |
| Calendar and event information | Free-text event labels a parent enters (e.g. "Basketball training"), a date, optional recurrence (once or weekly), and which child (if any) the event relates to. |
| Imported school calendar files (PDFs) | If a parent uses the PDF import feature, the uploaded file and the event information extracted from it (subject to the parent's review and confirmation) are processed and stored as part of the family's Premium data. |
| Pocket-money dollar values | Dollar values assigned to chores and running earned/paid totals. This feature is available on the Premium plan. |
| Purchase and entitlement status | An anonymous, app-generated identifier and your subscription status, used to unlock Premium features across your devices. See Section 4. |
All Premium-only information in this section is transmitted to and stored on our behalf by Supabase, our cloud database provider, so that it can sync across your devices. See Section 4 for details.
2.3 Information we do not collect
RoutineNest does not collect, and has no feature that requests: children's surnames, dates of birth, photographs, video, audio, precise location, government identifiers, health information, or contact lists. We do not access your device's camera, microphone, or contacts. We do not use advertising identifiers because RoutineNest does not display advertising.
2.4 If you email us or ask to join the beta
If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you write. If you ask to join the RoutineNest beta, we keep your email address (the one your Apple ID uses, so we can send a TestFlight invitation) in the mailbox we use for support. We use it only to send beta invitations and a notice when the app launches, and to reply to you. We do not share it, sell it, or add it to any other list. You can ask us to delete it at any time by replying to any of our emails or writing to [email protected]. There is no web form or tracking on our website for this: you join by sending us an email.
3. How we use information
We use the information described in Section 2 only to operate the core features of the app, authenticate Premium accounts and keep data in sync, manage and validate subscriptions, provide customer support, and comply with legal obligations where applicable.
We do not use any information collected through RoutineNest for advertising, behavioural profiling, or to train machine learning or AI models. We do not sell personal information, as that term is defined under applicable privacy laws (including the Australian Privacy Act 1988 and U.S. state privacy laws), and never have.
4. How information is stored, and who else can access it
4.1 Free plan: local only. All information described in Section 2.1 is stored exclusively in local, on-device storage. We do not have access to it and cannot recover it if lost.
4.2 Premium plan: cloud sync via Supabase. Information described in Sections 2.1 and 2.2 is transmitted to and stored on servers operated by Supabase, Inc., located in Sydney, Australia. If you live outside Australia, your information will be transferred to and processed in Australia.
4.3 RevenueCat. We use RevenueCat to manage subscription status. RevenueCat receives only an anonymous identifier and purchase/subscription events. We do not send your name, email, or family data to RevenueCat.
4.4 Apple and Google. All payments are processed directly by Apple or Google. We never receive or store your payment card details.
4.5 No advertising, no analytics. RoutineNest does not integrate any advertising network, ad SDK, or analytics/tracking service, in either plan.
4.6 Website and email. This website is hosted by Cloudflare, which also forwards emails sent to [email protected] to our mailbox, hosted by Google. Emails you send us therefore pass through, and are stored by, those providers under their own terms.
5. Children's privacy
RoutineNest is a general-audience app designed for use by parents and guardians. It is not directed to children and is not listed under Apple's Kids Category. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children. All information about a child is entered by a parent or guardian.
If a parent or guardian believes their child has provided us with personal information outside of a parent's own account setup, contact us at [email protected] and we will investigate and delete such information as appropriate.
6. Data retention and deletion
6.1 Free plan. You control retention directly on your device; uninstalling the app removes all local data.
6.2 Premium plan. Data is retained on Supabase while your subscription is active. You may request full deletion at any time by contacting [email protected]. Pocket-money completion history is intentionally retained even after a chore is marked "paid," so a parent has an ongoing record. It is deleted only via full account deletion or direct removal in the app.
6.3 Archived children. When a parent archives a child in the app, that child's information is kept for 90 days so mistakes can be corrected, and is then permanently deleted. On the free plan this happens on your device. On Premium, a scheduled process on our servers permanently deletes the cloud copy at the same point, so a deleted child's information does not remain in the cloud or return from another device.
7. Data security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect Premium information, relying on Supabase's built-in security infrastructure. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure. For the free plan, security depends on your own device's settings.
8. Your rights and choices
Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete information we hold about you. Contact [email protected] to exercise these rights. Free-text fields (family display name, calendar events) can be edited or deleted directly in the app at any time.
9. International data transfers
Premium data is stored in Sydney, Australia. Some of our service providers, including RevenueCat, Apple, Google and Cloudflare, may process the limited information described above in other countries, including the United States. Where required by law, we take steps intended to ensure appropriate safeguards for such transfers.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice.
