Where to start after a diagnosis

A short list of organisations we would point any parent to, grouped by what you are trying to sort out. They already do this better than we could, so we link to them.

How to use this page. Read the group that matches today, not the whole list. Everything here is free to read. We checked each link and phone number on 6 October 2026. Services change, so confirm details with the organisation before relying on them.

NDIS and funding

The rules here are the most likely to change. We deliberately do not summarise them. Use the official source and one of the guides below.

Amaze: NDIS guides

Step-by-step pages on applying, setting goals, the planning meeting, using your plan, managing it and changing it.

NDIS

The official source for eligibility and current rules.

ndis.gov.au

Disability Gateway

A free government service that helps people with disability, families and carers find information, services and support across all areas of life.

Supports for young children are changing with the national Thriving Kids program, and details have been moving. Check what applies to your child with the NDIS or Amaze before relying on any summary, including ours.

Finding a therapist

An occupational therapist is often the first person to help with sensory needs, daily routines and visual supports.

Occupational Therapy Australia: Find an OT

The profession's national body runs a public directory for finding an occupational therapist.

RoutineNest has no commercial relationship with the organisations listed, apart from the disclosure above, and does not receive anything for linking to them. This page is general information, not medical, legal or financial advice. Talk to your child's doctor or therapist about your child's needs. Last checked 6 October 2026.
